Aspen Snowmass Backcountry Jeep Tours

May - October

Gold Hill Tour

One of our most popular Colorado jeep tours, this tour travels up the backside of Aspen Mountain, traversing through verdant meadows and Blue Spruce forests. Once on top, we skirt along the crest of Gold Hill Ridge, affording fantastic views of the Continental Divide on the one side, and the Montezuma Basin area on the other. Finally, we head back down through Little Annie Basin, past old mines and cabins dating back to Aspen's earliest days. Wildflowers are in abundance and there is ample opportunity for picture taking and strolling. A refreshing snack will be served along the way.

Elk Camp Wilderness Vista

A backcountry jeep tour and picnic to the top of Elk Camp on Snowmass Mountain is a delightful "get-away-from-it-all" experience. The Elk Camp area is privately maintained by the U.S. Forest Service and the Snowmass Ski Area; Blazing Trails Jeep Tours is the only licensed activity on the mountain. The area is closed to public transportation, which allows for a very private and peaceful visit to the top of the 11,325-foot Burnt Mountain. From the summit you will be treated to a fantastic view of Aspen Mountain, beautiful Willow Creek, and the breathtaking Maroon Bells. It is not uncommon to see the large herd of Elk, which makes its summer residence in the area. A refreshing snack will be served along the way.

3/4 Day Taylor Pass

This trip starts with a spectacular drive up the Castle Creek Valley. We believe this is one of the most beautiful valleys in our area. During this ride, you'll pass one of the oldest Aspen forests, a colorful field of wild geraniums, and intriguing evidence of avalanches. Following that, we'll stop for a short historic stroll through the ghost town of Ashcroft. After Ashcroft we head up Express Creek Road on our rugged ascent to Taylor Lake. On the way, you will pass through the high alpine flora and fauna and see some of the most spectacular views of Colorado's fourteeners, which are peaks that reach a tremendous 14,000 feet above sea level. Finally with a view of the lake, lunch will be served.
